Our Mission

AP Challenge Trust (APC) was set up to support the Alternative Provision (AP) sector from the ground up to ensure that young people who aren’t able to thrive in mainstream education receive the aspirational education and support that they need to succeed.

It is our mission to help APs improve outcomes at an affordable cost through helping AP leadership to network, and by bringing in experience from those who have run Outstanding APs.  In doing so we highlight the outstanding practice happening in APs across the country so that more people can see how the personalised and smaller school environment in alternative provision can help young people realise their potential.  We work in partnership with the AP sector to raise the profile of AP nationally, campaign for education reform to support AP work, hold conferences and provide peer-to-peer mentoring/consultancy from those who have successfully led APs.

Our goals and objectives are for more AP Schools to demonstrate outstanding provision, for their students.  Having run annual conferences for the past 5 years, we aim over the next 3 years to:

  1. Expand the APC network thereby enabling an increasing number of APs to improve outcomes for the young people they support
  2. Build stronger partnerships so that APC and its advisers can speak on behalf of the APs in order to raise the profile of Alternative Provision nationally
  3. Shine a light on the excellent AP practice happening nationwide by showcasing it and developing more mentoring networks between AP schools
